About the Instructor
Hi, I'm Jillian!
I am a homeschooling mom of 2 (1 teen and 1 young adult!) and have been teaching sewing all over Austin and surrounding areas since 2022.
I am originally from the Philadelphia area and studied Psychology and Education at Widener University. I have been working with children in the education field since my teenage years. My passion is for creative arts and I have been an artist and creator at heart my whole life. My biggest creative passion has always been sewing which I began learning in high school.
I have been sewing for at least 30 years and have worked professionally sewing everything from handbags, quilts, pillows, plushies and stuffed animals, pet accessories and designer clothing.
ADULTS AND OLDER TEENS: My approach to teaching is interest based, meaning I tailor the lessons and projects to your specific goals, interests, and skill level. Whether your goal is to make your own clothing, alter or upcycle thrifted pieces, learn pattern drafting, create unique accessories or home decor, beautiful quilts from start to finish, or you want to try it all; I can help you dive right in from complete beginner to confident sewist! My broad range of experience and expertise allows me to take you on a custom made path to meet your sewing goals and aspirations! I can guide you to the best projects and patterns that will challenge you and introduce new techniques, while not being too overwhelming leading to frustration and discouragement!
KIDS: For childrens lessons, my approach is a bit more structured while still incorporating student(s) interests and goals. For children I have a multitude of beginner level projects that start off with the very basics and build new skills and techniques each lesson. Depending on how long I work with a student, our projects become more complex and detailed, while always keeping students interests and passions in mind to keep the spark and fun in learning!
